Lena is the founder of D11 Stories, a new production company that provides Script Editing, Story Consulting, Project Development, Writing and Producing Services for storytellers close to home and around the world. With 25 years experience in the industry, Lena began her career as a Script Editor on Fair City (RTÉ), where she was also responsible for training new writers. After 12 years in Carrigstown, she moved to script edit Roy (CBBC) before becoming the Head of Scripting in JAM Media. In that role, she was Supervising Script Producer on Becca’s Bunch (Nickelodeon) and Jessy and Nessy (Amazon) and led the writing team on Little Roy (CBeebies) and Zogcasts (CBBC). Lena is a Script Editor and Mentor on the National Talent Academy for Animation First Credit Scheme. She was a writer on the documentary Where the Wild Geese Go (RTÉ), Story Editor on upcoming comedy Showkids (RTÉ) and preschool animated series Taste Buddies (RTÉ). She is currently producing a 2-minute animated short for RTÉjr called No Worries!

Ciarán is a writer, producer, and story consultant with over twenty years' experience in the television industry in Ireland and the UK. He has written, storylined, and script edited everything from childrens' animation, to soap, to hour-long medical and police procedural dramas. He is also a mentor and tutor and has a TV series and a movie currently in development. Ciarán was the Fair City series consultant for five hugely-successful years during which he ran the story and script departments and was responsible for setting a compelling editorial tone for the show. Previous to that, he was a writer and story producer on Red Rock, before he took on the role of story producer on Eastenders. In his other life, Ciarán is also the Executive Director of the Writers' Guild of Ireland.

Writer and Creative Producer, Jennifer founded Mayo based production company HeartFelt Drama in 2023 to champion and develop great stories and great talent rooted in the west of Ireland. An experienced screenwriter with over 100 tv drama credits to her name, Jennifer began her career in documentary production and development. She’s been a core member of the writing team on RTE’s Fair City since 2011. She is currently developing an original rom com series through her own company, and a feature film with Sligo based TriMoon Films, both of which have Screen Ireland funding attached. In 2025 she was selected as one of only two Irish writers to take part in the Writers Lab UK and Europe, for female writers over 40. Jennifer has been Chair of the Writers Guild of Ireland since 2020, and more recently was also re-elected for a second term as Chair of the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds. A fierce advocate for Irish writers, through her work with the Writers Guild, she has originated and run a wide number of training and development initiatives for new writers.

We are delighted to welcome back Lena Byrne and Ciarán Hayden as Script Editors for the 2026 Lab. Both bring extensive experience in developing short and feature-length screenplays for screen.
The Lab is facilitated by Jennifer Davidson, Chair of the Writers Guild of Ireland, whose leadership and industry insight underpin the programme’s supportive and professional approach.

There is no separate application for the Screenwriting Lab.
Writers are automatically considered when they submit a script to the Catalyst Short Screenplay Award 2026.
