Festival Founder and Director Dr Susan Liddy:
“Catalyst 2023 exceeded all my expectations. We welcomed students, emerging and established screenwriters and filmmakers, members of the Ukrainian community, film enthusiasts, and those who relish critical debate. We had screenings and panel discussions, workshops and script labs and industry presentations. And we had one of the most accomplished directors Ireland has ever produced – the incomparable Aisling Walsh! Besides all that, there was a lot of fun and great laughs along the way. As the festival closes I’m more convinced than ever that Catalyst International Film Festival has a long and trailblazing future ahead. But for now, we’re taking a few days off. Then we roll up the sleeves and start over. Catalyst 2024, here we come!”
On behalf of Susan, Aoife and the Catalyst team, we’d like to thank everyone who submitted to Catalyst International Film Festival, 2023. We had a record number of submissions this year and thank you all for the time you took to submit. Inevitably, as with all festivals, there are filmmakers and screenwriters who are disappointed. Our programmers are guided by our criteria but they ultimately curate the programmes and not every submission can be screened. We urge you not to give up and to submit again next year. Regardless of whether your film is screening this year or whether your short screenplay was successful on this occasion or not, remember your voice is important. Come join your tribe at the festival and engage in the vibrant and important discussions going on here. You’ll be welcomed with open arms.
