Following the success of last year’s Screenwriting Industry Day at the Catalyst International Film Festival (CIFF), Catalyst, in collaboration with the National Talent Academy for Film and TV Drama, and with the support of the Writers Guild of Ireland, will once again contribute to the "Shaping the Future in Screenwriting" event in 2025.
This event celebrates the importance of screenwriting as both a craft and an art form, featuring an exclusive masterclass with acclaimed screenwriter and director Paul Fraser.
Paul Fraser is renowned for his authentic storytelling and compelling character portrayals. With a career spanning over two decades, his notable works include collaborations with director Shane Meadows on films such as TwentyFourSeven, A Room for Romeo Brass, Once upon a Time in the Midlands and Dead Man's Shoes. He also directed the feature film My Brothers and has contributed to various music videos for artists such as the Arctic Monkeys and Plan B.
Paul is the writer of the highly anticipated film Saipan, set for release later this year. Saipan is an upcoming sports drama about the Republic of Ireland national football team and the infamous Saipan incident between player Roy Keane and manager Mick McCarthy in the lead-up to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The film stars Steve Coogan as McCarthy and Éanna Hardwicke as Keane.
In this exclusive masterclass, Paul will delve into his creative process, share insights from his extensive experience in the film industry, and discuss the art of crafting narratives that resonate with audiences.
Whether you're an aspiring screenwriter, director, or film enthusiast, this session offers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the industry’s most respected professionals.
The masterclass will be followed by a reception for guests to network and connect with fellow writers, industry professionals, and creatives.
