Festival Founder and Director Dr Susan Liddy:
“Catalyst 2023 exceeded all my expectations. We welcomed students, emerging and established screenwriters and filmmakers, members of the Ukrainian community, film enthusiasts, and those who relish critical debate. We had screenings and panel discussions, workshops and script labs and industry presentations. And we had one of the most accomplished directors Ireland has ever produced – the incomparable Aisling Walsh! Besides all that, there was a lot of fun and great laughs along the way. As the festival closes I’m more convinced than ever that Catalyst International Film Festival has a long and trailblazing future ahead. But for now, we’re taking a few days off. Then we roll up the sleeves and start over. Catalyst 2024, here we come!”
Catalyst International Film Festival presents a film programme that prioritises stories and storytellers currently under-represented on screen and behind the camera. We want to create a more inclusive industry and films screened here will promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion whether in content, key creative roles or crew.
Catalyst is Ireland's flagship film festival addressing UNDER-REPRESENTATION IN THE FILM INDUSTRY.
There will be panel discussions and Q & A's where topical issues of the day will be enthusiastically debated with filmmakers, guest speakers, industry personnel and audience members. We believe that equality is key to enriching filmmaking and audiences and it is core to this festival.
Be a part of Ireland's flagship diversity, inclusion and equality film festival, where diversity is the norm, not merely accommodated.
For inclusion in the Catalyst International Film Festival 2024, films and scripts need to satisfy a number of criteria in order to demonstrate how content and personnel contribute to diversity.
"It swells the heart to welcome everybody back and to growing our Shannon side film festival, Catalyst International Film Festival and celebrating the many different faces of our film industry and its future. As our industry experiences a resurgence of exciting attention, it has become increasingly clear that Ireland has extraordinary talent. Let’s nurture and support it so we can continue to explore our ever-evolving identity and culture through the collective in film by encouraging and supporting all Irish voices! Join us for Catalyst International Film Festival, 2023!"
Ruth Negga, Catalyst International Film Festival Festival Ambassador.
Dr Susan Liddy, film festival founder and Director, is enthusiastic about the festival’s association with Ruth Negga.
“We are very proud and honoured to welcome the talented actor, Ruth Negga, to the role of Ambassador for Catalyst International Film Festival. Ruth is hugely supportive of the festival’s ethos so there is a real meeting of minds in this partnership. Ruth also has strong ties to Limerick, having lived in the city for many years as a child. Her connection remains strong and, indeed, she still has extended family living here. We look forward to working with her to focus attention on the need for a more diverse and inclusive industry.”
