Catalyst International Film Festival National Student Short Film Award is designed to recognize and celebrate the work of emerging student filmmakers from across the country. The National Student Short Film Award is open to all students currently enrolled in a film programme at a recognized 3rd level educational institution in Ireland. Films must be no longer than 20 minutes, including titles and credits, and must be submitted through FilmFreeway.
All Catalyst Award Judges comprise esteemed professionals and experts from the film industry, guaranteeing that the work of the finalists will be showcased to pertinent industry figures, thereby presenting an exceptional opportunity for the winning filmmaker.
Previous Catalyst Awards Judges include Colm Bairéad, Rebecca Daly, Frank Berry, Ursula Rani Sarma, Paddy Breathnach, Nell Roddy.
The winning film will be screened at the festival and the winning filmmaker will receive €1000 (Kindly sponsored by TUS). (More prizes TBC)

Schools TY Short Film Workshop Programme and Award 2024
in association with Burning House Productions
FREE Filmmaking Workshop: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion:
Catalyst, in collaboration with Burning House Productions, is offering an exclusive workshop to schools in the South West focused on creating films that promote positive change and inclusivity. These workshops provide an opportunity to learn how to tell powerful stories that reflect the world we aspire to live in—diverse, inclusive, and filled with amazing narratives.
Discover Your Unique Voice:
Students can unleash their creativity and express their unique perspectives through filmmaking. Our tailored Burning House Productions workshops encourages participants to explore their storytelling potential and develop their voices as emerging filmmakers.
Embrace Diversity in Your Storytelling:
Students will learn how to incorporate different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives into your films. Discover the richness that diverse storytelling brings to the cinematic landscape, amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in mainstream media.
Understand the Power of Inclusion:
Students will delve into the impact of inclusion and diversity in storytelling. Understand how films can not only entertain but also challenge and inspire, with inclusivity at the heart of impactful storytelling.
Films will be screened at Catalyst Festival:
The Short Films produced by students will be screened at the Festival on Thursday 18th April, on the big screen in The Belltable and entered for the NEXTGEN PERSPECTIVES Award.
Additionally, on the day we will screen a selection of Irish Shorts and there will be a special "Meet The Industry Panel" where students can engage with industry professionals and gain insights into their journeys.
ALL SCHOOLS HAVE NOW BEEN ALLOCATED THEIR FREE WORKSHOP - PROGRAMME WILL BEGIN FEBRUARY 2024.
Catalyst International Film Festival 2024is now accepting submissions for all categories. For inclusion in the Catalyst International Film Festival films will need to satisfy a number of criteria in order to demonstrate how content and personnel contribute to diversity.
